As mentioned in my previous blog, a good basic system for ultimate results for skin care is, Morning - Protection, Nourishment & Glow
Evening - Cleanse, Repair & Rest
Now you know the routine, which products are best for your skin?
Firstly, work out your skin type.
Oily, Dry or Combination skin? Our skin may need a little extra nourishment in different seasons and our hormones can play a part but basically our skin type is consistent all year round.
Combination skin generally means, oilier in the T Zone and normal to dry elsewhere. This is a common skin type and often our pores are enlarged around the oily zone.
Oily skin type can produce a shiny or greasy appearance from the excess oil and pores can get clogged and enlarged causing texture on the skin.
Dry skin type produces less sebum (natural oil) which is needed to retain moisture and build a protective shield against the elements. Dry skin can also give the appearance of premature ageing.
Did you know on average, we touch our faces approx. 20 times an hour! Spreading oil or dirt, clogging pores, stretching our skin affecting elasticity, not to mention spreading germs.
Number one recommendation for all skin types, always cleanse your skin thoroughly before applying any products.
We don’t want to trap dead skin cells and other nasties under the skincare products or makeup. Clean skin also means products can absorb and do their job properly but most importantly gets rid of those shedding dead skin cells that can create texture, inflammation, and breakouts.
Tip- Keep a bottle of facial cleanser in the shower so its on hand rather than using body washes. Cleaning is important but also what you are cleaning your skin with is too.
Good quality facial cleansers like our “Collagen Boost Gentle Facial Cleansing Cream” take into account the PH needed for the skin for optimum results. The softness after use says it all. You won’t get that with a body wash.
We also have the “Vitamin E Calming Facial Cleansing Gel” Great for combination or oily skin types. These sorts of deep cleaning products can really help, I’ve seen it with many clients. Just daily use keeps the oiliness, clogged pores and acne at bay. Particularly good for teenagers going through puberty.
Tip- When cleansing your skin, don’t over vigorously rub your face. Let the product do its job, that is what it is designed for. Pulling and pushing skin stretches it unnecessarily. Pat dry only and with correct treatment of your skin you definitely will have more elasticity left over time.
In the next blog I will go into more detail for each skin type, and what exact products to look out for.
Kathy.
